Here is what some of our patient/family support volunteers say…
Jerome: “My mom was a RN and Hospice volunteer. I used to ask her, “How do you do this? Isn’t it sad and difficult?” I could have never imagined I would be a hospice volunteer. Then I was asked by friend, if I would visit some hospice patients. As an outside sales person, I found people like to talk about themselves and be remembered. So it is as simple as caring about other people, showing you are interested in them and finding what makes them smile.”
Elaine: “I am a 65-year-old retiree who has been a hospice volunteer for 10 years. When I originally applied, I wanted to help with filing a few hours each week. The Volunteer Coordinator asked if I would like to work with patients. I was afraid – what if they didn’t like me or I didn’t like them. After careful consideration, I eventually agreed to give it a try and found myself involved in the tenderest work I could ever have imagined. “
